Roadside Picnic is an experimental, looping projection piece. It is a time capsule examining the obsolescence built into technology and image-making. Sounds of outdated computers and office machinery create the musical tones, while the visuals explore the early potential of AI text-to-image generation. Inspired by the Andrei Tarkovsky film Stalker and the forbidden expeditions into the hazardous wasteland of the Zone, I included „Tarkovsky“ in every prompt that created these images.
Erica Shires is an interdisciplinary artist working with 3D animation, video, and sound to merge the physicality of old media and the natural environment with emerging technologies. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
